Our story

Wrenfield is a young roastery with an old-fashioned idea: buy good coffee from people you know, roast it carefully, and get it to the cup while it's fresh.

Hannah Brooks spent nine years roasting and training baristas in Chicago and Durham before coming home to the mountains. Eli Marchetti ran fulfillment and customer operations for an outdoor-gear brand here in Asheville and was tired of seeing great coffee shipped stale. They met at a cupping in 2023, started planning in 2024, and in March 2025 signed a lease on a former tire shop on Riverside Drive, in the River Arts District.

The roaster, a 15-kilo Loring S15 Falcon, arrived in June 2025. We roasted our first production batch on August 4, 2025, opened the tasting bar a week later and launched this shop in September 2025. The name comes from the Carolina wrens that nested in the loading dock while we were renovating, and refused to leave.

How we work

  • We roast three days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and ship the next business day. Every bag carries its roast date.
  • We buy by the lot. Most of our green coffee comes through two importers we trust; our Colombia Huila La Plata is our first direct relationship, with twelve families we visited in February 2026. Read notes from that trip.
  • We keep the menu short: two house blends, two espressos, a decaf and four to six single origins at a time.
  • Packaging: our bags are a recyclable mono-material film with a one-way valve; shipping boxes are recycled corrugate with paper tape.

Who backs us

Wrenfield is owned by its two founders. We financed the roaster and build-out with an SBA 7(a) loan through a local bank and a small seed round from eleven angel investors in the Asheville area, most of whom run food, farm and hospitality businesses here. No private equity, no coffee conglomerate.

Our first year, in numbers

  • Subscribers in 46 states
  • 23 offices, 6 cafés and 4 restaurants roasted for each week
  • 318 customer reviews, averaging 4.8 out of 5
